SAN FRANCISCO - Dec. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will promote high-resolution digital music at the International CES 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, by showcasing high-resolution audio (Hi-Res) download stores in the Hi-Res Audio Experience TechZone.  The TechZone located in the Venetian’s Bellini Ballroom will also host three panel sessions on a variety of HiRes audio topics.

On January 7, 2014 audio pioneer and 5-time Grammy nominated engineer, Cookie Marenco, is scheduled to appear on two panels in the new HiRes Tech Zone and with Indiegogo in a press conference titled “How Indiegogo Will Save an Old Dying Industry”.

Marenco has played a pivotal role in the creation and distribution of high-resolution audio recordings using a breakthrough digital format called Direct Stream Digital (DSD).  Her company, Blue Coast Records http://bluecoastrecords.com, became the first company to commercially release DSD downloads in 2010 at a time when mainstream listeners had turned their back on good quality audio.

The consumer demand for Direct Stream Digital has since encouraged more than 100 hardware and software companies to create new devices for this growing market. By September 2013, Sony had announced the release of a new product line to support Hi-Res Audio.  Blue Coast Records is one of six content partners with Sony.

“It's all about the experience,” insists Marenco.  “The technology is here and the listening experience is incomparable. Our goal is to allow the listener to feel the music as if the artist is playing in front of them. You can’t do that with mp3.  I'm thrilled that CES is recognizing and supporting this trend.”

The first panel entitled: " Welcome to the Hi-Res Music World, 1-2pm, January 7" will feature Marenco, Alex Pham (Billboard), Jim Belcher (Universal Music Group); Mark Piibe (Sony Music Entertainment) and other label executives who will discuss the challenges associated with securing and distributing high-resolution audio.

The second panel is “Meet the Hi-Res Music Creators,”. This session is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Along with Marenco panelists include Elliot Scheiner, producer, mixer and engineer at ELS Surround; Allen Sides, engineer and producer at Ocean Way Recording; John Newton, founder and president of Soundmirror; and other well known producers in the audiophile world.

Indiegogo (a popular crowdfunding organization) and Light Harmonic (an audiophile electronics company) recently ran a successful campaign for a new low cost DSD / HiRes device.  In conjunction with these two companies, Marenco will be in a press conference highlighting crowdfunding for Hi-Res audio and the creation of music.

The press conference will be held the morning of January 7, 2014 at 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. in the Venetian Marcello Room 4503.  Larry Ho and Gavin Fish (Light Harmonic), Kate Drane (Indiegogo) and Jude Mansilla (Head-Fi.org) will round out panelists.  This is invitation only.  For more information contact

A recent interview with National Public Radio (NPR) highlights Marenco’s efforts for advancing Hi-Res Audio.  It has become a primer for those interested to learn more about better quality audio.
