Charlotte, NC based start-up, ScribWe launches crowd-funding campaign to raise $50,000

ScribWe seeks to help instill literacy skills and possibly let students earn profits in the process.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec. 23, 2013 - CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- We are pleased to announce that ScribWe.com, a literacy focused collaborative writing platform for students, is launching a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo.com to raise $50,000 to help complete development of it’s platform. The campaign will last from December 23rd, 2013 through January 31st, 2014.

ScribWe provides an online platform where students can create stories they are interested in and evaluate the writings of other students. This reinforces competency in the various levels of learning as detailed by Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy including: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating and Creating. Harold Thompson, User Experience Architect of ScribWe, said, “One problem with our youth today is they are forced to read centuries old novels such as Gilgamesh, Hamlet, Canterbury Tales etc. and they really have no sense of connection to these literary works. Though these are obvious masterpieces, the disconnection in turn causes students to perform lower and retain less of what they learn about literacy.”

ScribWe’s crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo.com seeks to raise $50,000 for expenditures including: hiring part-time programmers, application development, server space, component development, software purchases, accounting/legal services, and marketing. ScribWe, also plans to allow students to receive proceeds from their books should a publisher wish to publish them. “We understand that it may not be a lot of money from the sales but it will definitely show students how their educational efforts are directly related to their income. A win, win.”, says Thompson.

The creative rewards/perks for this campaign range from custom bookmarks, t-shirts, notebooks, mousepads, website advertisements and custom characters created from contributor input! ScribWe seeks to address the literacy gap among youth ages 13-21 by providing them an outlet to collaboratively write creative works with their peers. The goal is to provide every high school in America the opportunity to use this platform and eventually expand into international markets enabling classrooms worldwide to write collaboratively.
