Gigantic laser show installation on Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok, Thailand

BANGKOK - Dec. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Laserworld and its subsidiary RTI implemented a huge permanent laser show installation on Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok, Thailand. The project was set up by Lighting & Equipment Bangkok. The major challenge was to handle the high humidity, the extreme temperatures and the permanent vibrations from traffic on the bridge. That’s why special professional laser show equipment was necessary. As laser show systems, one RTI NANO 4 RYGB 22 with around 20W power and two RTI PIKO G10, with around 10W power each, were chosen. All systems were mounted inside a RTI COCOON climate housing to protect them against environmental impact and keep the laser systems at correct operating temperature.
The laser installation on the bridge was the central part of an illumination project to provide another attraction to people in Bangkok City and the many tourists coming to the city every year.

The whole installation was done to a script telling the story of the bridge and the Thai King. The story told with lasers and lights is explained in audio on the tour boats that pass by the bridge:

King Bhumibol Adulyadej always cares for the well-being of his people. One major problem in his country were difficulties in traffic and transportation. But the king had an idea to solve these problems: The Saphan Phra Ram 8 Bridge that crosses the Chao Phraya River is one of the royal development projects to solve the traffic problems in Bangkok. The project is seen as symbol how kind the king is to the Thai people. Saphan Phra Ram 8 was one part of the royal development projects set up by king Bhumibol on 15^th July 1995. The brigde was opened for public on 7^th May 2002.

It is the thirteenth bridge crossing the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and suburbs.

The name of the bridge was chosen in memory of the late King Ananda Mahidol, named Rama VIII.

The bridge was built to connect the Borommaratchachonnani elevated highway to Wisut Kasat road nearby Bank of Thailand in the Phra Nakhon zone. Architecture and design of the bridge were adapted to the royal seal and reflect the importance of this building for Bangkok. It has an asymmetrical design that should make the bridge look like a crystal from distant view. The rails and pillars shall symbolize the lotus throne shown in the royal seal.

The whole bridge construction plus the statue of King Ananda Mahidol next to it was built in a way that the sun shines on the middle of the street and on the King’s statue on every 21^st and 22^nd December every year.
