KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - Dec. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Mom2Mom KMC is pleased to host the Healthy Children’s Center for Breastfeeding's Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) training program. The Certified Lactation Counselor®, (CLC) certification is the premier National Certification in Lactation Management for the United States. CLC certification holders have demonstrated competence in the lactation skills, knowledge and attitudes that are essential to helping women meet their breastfeeding goals.

From the Surgeon General’s Call to Action:  “One of the most highly effective preventive measures a mother can take to protect the health of her infant and herself is to breastfeed. However, in the U.S., while 75 percent of mothers start out breastfeeding, only 13 percent of babies are exclusively breastfed at the end of six months.”

Anyone interested in helping breastfeeding mothers and babies can take the course; there are no pre-requisites.  This course is intended for people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. It will enable providers and non-medical professionals with practical skills to make breastfeeding a success, as well as provide insight into patients’ and clients’ problems, with a strong focus on counseling skills. The Lactation Counselor Training course is recognized by ANCC as a Nursing Skills Competency Program, and provides 45 contact-hours of CME credit for most health care professionals.

CLCs help to improve breastfeeding rates by assisting mothers and babies in overcoming common obstacles.
Breastfeeding has been proven to provide lifelong benefits for mother and baby.  Both the American Association of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continuing on as long as mother and baby choose.   In military communities, mothers are often separated from their partners, family, and others who typically provide the close support that is key to breastfeeding success.  CLCs help bridge this gap between mothers and skilled, continuously available breastfeeding education and support in their local communities.  Mom2Mom KMC maintains a database of community CLCs and lactation specialists for local moms to turn to when they need help.

Registration is open and class size is limited!Regular tuition is $745, and discounts are available.  This course is approved for use with MyCAA funding for eligible military spouses.  For more information, or to register, visit: http://www.facebook.com/CLC2014, http://www.mom2momkmc.org, http://www.healthychildren.cc, or contact:
