ORLAND PARK, Ill. - Dec. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Community Honda, an Orland Park, Illinois car dealer, is pleased to announce Honda will continue production on the Honda Ridgeline pickup truck. While there was some speculation the model will be discontinued, Honda is planning to release a full redesign of a second generation Ridgeline sometime within the next two years.

Currently Community Honda of Orland Park stocks the 2014 Honda Ridgeline. The automaker plans to discontinue the 2014 model sometime next June to spend time developing a redesigned Ridgeline here in the United States. Honda plans to exclusively produce the truck at their plant in Lincoln, Alabama, which is where the current Ridgeline is manufactured.

Since the model line is ending in June and we may not see a second generation until 2015, there could be a period where dealerships like Community Honda may not have any in stock. Honda promises this won’t be for long, though.

Honda has yet to share any specific facts about the second generation Ridgeline. The biggest question many have is if the second generation will continue to use a minivan-based platform sourced from the Honda Odyssey, or if it will adopt a heavier duty platform to better compete with models like the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, and Ram 1500.

The Ridgeline’s first generation began in 2005 for the 2006 model year. Shortly after its debut, the pickup was named North American Truck of the Year. This was largely due to the design of the vehicle and its cargo carrying abilities. To date, Honda has sold more than 242,000 Ridgeline pickups in the United States.

This year’s 2014 Ridgeline, the final model of the first generation, comes in a new Special Edition model. It features unique badging, the black trim package, and unique 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with black spikes.
