Follow on Google News | Christmas card contest entries are real crackersA competition to find the 2013 Christmas card for Care UK drew on a wealth of talent among colleagues, residents, their relatives and people who the services with the winning entry showing a delicate and ethereal winter scene.
By: Care UK Anne, who works at Bowes House care home in Hailsham, was thrilled to win the top prize – her card has been printed and is being sent to more than 20,000 people in the coming week. She said: “I loved the painting from the moment I had completed it. I was delighted when I heard that the judges agreed. It is a very odd thought to think that my card will be in homes, offices and hospitals across the country this Christmas!” Judge Belinda Moore, Care UK’s group marketing director said: “Anne has perfectly captured the beauty of a low winter sky and traditional landscape and I am sure anyone receiving the card will be very pleased to give it pride of place on their mantelpiece.” Charlotte Cripps, who lives at Care UK’s Riverbank centre in Hull, captured the judges’ hearts with her cross-stitched puppies, all wearing antlers and named as Santa’s Little Helpers. She said: “I enjoyed making this Christmas card because it looks like my mum and dad’s dogs.” Charlotte says she is going to use her £50 shopping voucher prize to treat her nieces and nephews. Tracey Brownsword, who works at St Mary’s NHS Treatment Centre in Portsmouth, took third place. She said: “I love art, but I haven’t had the chance to get involved for years. I just felt inspired by this competition, and because I really like the fact that we have a heart in our Care UK logo, I thought I would use that. After all, what’s Christmas about if it isn’t caring for people?” Belinda Moore said: “The quality of the entries was really high and I would like to thank all the residents, colleagues and people who use our services who took the trouble to submit their artwork.” End
