MALMÖ, Sweden - Dec. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Today, connectBlue announced its participation in the itACiH (IT Support for Advanced Cancer Care in the Home) project. connectBlue will bring to the project its know-how in reliable medical wireless and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

Beginning January 14, connectBlue will be a contributor of the Swedish itACiH (IT Support for Advanced Cancer Care in the Home) project. The aim of this project is to make it possible for more cancer patients to safely undergo treatment in the home environment.

“We have delivered proven medical wireless solutions for ten years and we know safety, robustness and reliability is of outmost importance in medical and healthcare,” says Rolf Nilsson, CEO of connectBlue. “With the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, it is now possible to move patient care into the home in a fashion not previously feasible.”

connectBlue will bring to the project its expertise in seamless and secure integration of wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and WLAN (also commonly referred to as WiFi) as well as how to best utilize Internet of Things for medical procedures including chemotherapy treatments, monitoring and follow-up. For instance, very simple devices can allow remote caregivers and family to monitor basic activities and can alert to changes or missed medications. Also, standard low-cost consumer devices provide for fundamental needs like medication monitoring and activity. Then, the home hub connects devices with the Internet so that caregivers can follow activities and provide support with confidence.

The itACiH project brings together resources from Lund’s University (LTH), Swedish healthcare and companies that are specialized in medical, telecom, alarm and safety industries. In the long haul, there is also the possibility to extend the home treatment to more types of treatment than cancer. The total budget for the project is 22 MSEK.
