By: Spartan Mambo The World Latin Dance Cup is one of the largest Latin dance competitions in the world, this year featuring over 800 competitors from 50 countries competing in 32 divisions including salsa, cha cha cha, bachata, and rueda. This year's competition was seen by over 1,000 spectators and more than 120,000 people around the world via their live Ustream video. Spartan Mambo qualified to compete at the Worlds this past July at the competition at the Las Vegas Salsa Congress. The team trained all season learning a new routine to compete at the Worlds, and held numerous fundraisers to help pay for the costs of going to Miami. The competition also coincided with Finals at San Jose State, so many of the students had to get their Finals moved or take them early. This was the first year that the world championships had a college division, and Spartan Mambo and made history by becoming the first college salsa team ever to win a World title. Spartan Mambo also placed 7th in the Amateur Teams division, beating out teams from Japan and Ecuador. End
