Linux distro Gigastrand OS recycles Microsoft Windows boxes for release

As Gigastrand International gears up for their January release, Gigastrand OS is getting packaging from an unlikely source - recycled OEM Windows DVD cases.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Dec. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Gigastrand International has always used recycled materials in their products. Gigastrand recently revealed that at least some of the retail boxed Gigastrand OS discs will use recycled OEM Microsoft Windows DVD cases. Founder Josh Tordsen explains.

"As a part of our green initiative, we accumulate used DVD cases, inspect them, and clean them up for use in our products. Apparently, in our processed stock of DVD cases, we have accumulated a fair number of OEM Windows DVD boxes. We are not exactly sure where they came from or what version of Windows they contained. It was a surprise to be sure."

Not all of the clear DVD boxes were perfectly cleaned off, which allowed the discovery and positive identification of the boxes. Despite this, Gigastrand plans to move forward with the reclaimed Windows boxes and will clean up the boxes that still had stickers.

"I think there is a bit of serendipity about this," says Josh Tordsen. "It is a little symbolic of what I have and I am sure some users will do. Remove one OS and put on Gigastrand OS."

Gigastrand International recently announced that their Gigastrand Operating System (Gigastrand OS) will be released on January 4th 2014.
