This year in the United States over three million skin cancers will be diagnosed. Since golfers spend a significant amount of time in the sun not only playing golf but also practicing, they may be at a higher risk than the general population for developing skin cancer.  Approximately 12,000 people will die from skin cancer, primarily from melanoma.

Wearing a wide brim hat that helps cover your ears and neck and using a good sunscreen with a SPF of 30 that blocks both UVA and UVB rays should be the foundation of a sun protection strategy. To be sure that clothes will protect you from UV rays, they should have a Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) label.  The UPF rating is a system of measuring a fabric’s UV blocking capability, much like SPF is for sunscreen.   You can add a product like SunSleeves (Iconic Sport) to a short sleeve polo to give your arms needed sun protection.
