Follow on Google News | Victory Lap Variety Show to Celebrate One-Year Anniversary on Tuesday, December 17A night of wheel-spinning fun with special guests Kurt Braunohler, Melinda Hill, Johnny Pemberton, Rory Scovel
By: Victory Lap “Our monthly variety show aims to corral the very best of alternative Los Angeles,” said Victory Lap Producer Sharon Eisman. “Victory Lap is a riotous, action-packed evening of slightly unhinged entertainment.” Victory Lap is hosted by Seth W. Owen (Movie Night at The Roosevelt) and Stuart Jenkins (Associate Producer, BBC America’s The Nerdist). This birthday party extravaganza includes special guests Johnny Pemberton (21 Jump Street), Rory Scovel (Ground Floor), Kurt Braunohler (host of Hot Tub), Laura Maxwell and Melinda Hill (host of What’s Up, Tiger Lily). The Victory Lap’s sci-fi influenced house band, Warp Drive, features Alex Dezen (The Damnwells). “Victory Lap has a festive nightclub feel to it,” noted hosts Owen and Jenkins. “It’s a throwback to TV comedy shows like The Muppet Show, The Gong Show and Playboy After Dark.” Past guests of Victory Lap have included John Roberts, Alie and Georgia, Jerrod Carmichael, Katie Crown, Kyle Kinane, Thomas Middleditch, Levi McDougall, Ron Funches, Anne Lederman in addition to musical guests Brendan Hines, Craig Wedren, Karen Kilgariff and Nick from Islands. Celebrity cameos have included Feist, Allyce Beasley (Moonlighting, Bored to Death), Meaghan Rath (Being Human) and Brett Gelman. About Victory Lap Victory Lap takes place every third Tuesday of the month at The Virgil, the hottest new comedy venue in Los Angeles. This riotous, variety show is the brain child of Seth W. Owen (a veteran of the Montréal comedy scene), Stuart Jenkins (New York funny man) and Sharon Eisman (a girl who knows how to get things done). After spending many hours at comedy shows sitting in hard back chairs act after act, they decided they wanted to create something that would get the audience out of their seats and remind them of TV comedy classics like The Muppet Show, The Gong Show and Playboy After Dark. They grabbed musician Alex Dezen (The Damnwells)to create the house band Warp Drive and got to work. The result? A wacky mix of music, comedy, novelty and a giant prize wheel that can lead to anything and everything including Slow Dances, Time Machines, and Konko. What's Konko? EXACTLY.
