2 year study from 8,800 students show 70% say - jobs will affect University choice

BRISTOL, U.K. - Dec. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Leading revision website S-cool.co.uk ran a 2 year study asking over 6800 students “Will difficult job prospects affect your choice of higher education.” A whopping 70% of students will be in some way affected when making university choices. It is not surprising students are looking for job prospects in secure industry’s in this uncertain economic climate.

Education Director of S-cool Nick Glossop said “The fact is students are choosing career choices with promising job prospects. This will have an impact on certain university courses which are more theoretical such as philosophy, art, media, which could lead to decline within these industries. In return this will affect the economy as industry’s which bring in large revenues could face decline.”

The results of this poll broken down stated that 30% of students will study what interests them, 46% will choose a course that interests them but has good results, 18% will choose a course based on employment outcomes and 6% stating they will not go into higher education and seek a job immediately. This poll has made it apparent that students are being affected by the saturated job market leading to many students not pursuing dream courses as it could lead to implications in the future of insecure employment.

It is important that information is provided to students to help them with decision making for more information on choosing courses.

S-cool have recently launched a UK University and course search tool at: http://www.s-cool.co.uk/unifind which features a unique graphical ‘Balanced Scorecard’ for average salary, job prospects and many more stats.
