DALLAS - Dec. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Weathermatic, the pioneer and leader in Smart irrigation control, has released the SLW5 Wireless Weather Station.  This new compact weather station delivers micro-climate data straight to your SmartLine controller, allowing the controller to automatically adjust evapotranspiration (ET) watering schedules. The SLW5’s miniaturized design allows the weather station to be placed in an inconspicuous area and more than doubles the possible distance from the controller that the weather station can be mounted.

Most irrigation controllers overwater without an on-site weather station to detect real-time weather changes on the property.  SLW5 helps avoid over- and under-watering, extending plant life, minimizing hardscape damage and reducing potential liability.  The weather sensors stop watering during rain or freeze events (below 37°F/3°C), preventing water waste and property damage.  The SLW5’s 1,500 foot line-of-sight range and 900 MHz bi-directional frequency give the newest weather station dramatically more range than previous models, allowing users to mount the weather station at greater distance from the controller and in locations previously unavailable.

SLW5 is built to be compatible with all models and firmware versions of the SmartLine controller family. Once it is connected to the SmartLine controller, all of the “smart” features become available, saving you a significant amount of water.  The weather information is used to create powerful reporting when connected to Weathermatic’s SmartLink Network web application.

Despite being a new product, SLW5 is not an afterthought for Weathermatic.   SLW5 integrates perfectly with the SmartLine family, with no additional box to mount next to the controller.   “SLW5 installs in minutes and lasts for years, according to Bill Savelle, EVP of Products for Weathermatic. The SLW5 and hub are pre-paired for convenience and we made the design decision to use a standard lithium battery with 10-year battery life rather than specialty batteries that are difficult to find and replace.  When connected through SmartLink, the user will receive an email alert when the battery is low, eliminating worries about unknown battery failure.”

The SLW5 is available through authorized Weathermatic distributors.
