India Reviews Privacy Protection Regulations

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Dec. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Indian authorities including Center for Internet and Society (CIS), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) recently hosted a privacy roundtable event to discuss the Privacy Protection Bill. The planned regulation for a privacy and personal data protection system would regulate the collection, surveillance and use of personal data in India, reports Nair & Co.’s International Expansion Services (http://www.nair-co.com/) Team.

The new privacy legislation would add to the Information Technology privacy regulations adopted in 2011. The recent review is in response to concerns raised by European Union about the transfer of personal data by businesses operating in India. In addition, Indian citizens have voiced concerns about the use of personal identifiers including biometric data and exposure to breaches in privacy and personal data.
