NFL's Chimdi Chekwa Hosts First Place For Youth Annual Event

OAKLAND, Calif. - Dec. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Oakland, CA – December 10, 2013- Oakland Raider Chimdi Chekwa has spent most of the 2013 season making big plays on special teams in the gunner position.  Consistently, he has been a factor on the field, but that doesn’t take away from where a big part of his heart is.  In the midst of his 3^rd year in the NFL, Chekwa is very adamant that he makes his presence known off the football field.  Thursday, December 12, Chekwa partners with Oakland’s First Place For Youth program as he commits to gifting the children within the organization at their annual holiday event.

The yearly event includes a talent and fashion show, gift distribution, food, and the ever so delightful company of FPFY staff and members.  Chekwa will be participating in all aspects of the event and also plans to bring a few guests from the Oakland Raiders.

Sam Cobbs, Chief Executive Officer of First Place for Youth said, “We’re excited to be partnering with Chimdi to support the foster youth in the Bay Area who don’t have much this holiday season. It is wonderful to be able to work together to bring joy to the young people during a time that can otherwise be difficult without the support of family.” Chekwa added, “I joined in doing the shopping for the kids and I’m glad I was able to help them.  I am most looking forward to meeting everyone and I can’t wait to see the talent show” he said.

About Chimdi Chekwa

Chimdi Chekwa is in his third season as a cornerback for the Oakland Raiders. Chekwa was drafted in the 4th round of the 2011 NFL draft. In addition to playing cornerback for the Raiders, Chekwa has been a huge contributor on special teams particularly in the gunner position. Off the field, this stellar cornerback is dedicated to being a positive influence for youth by dedicating himself to the community in his work & home locations. Chekwa is a proud alumnus of The Ohio State University, where he earned an accounting degree, while being a member of the football and track and field team.
