Gaudiya Nrityarpan 2013- Dance festival held in Kolkata, India

The first ever Gaudiya Nrityarpan- celebration of Gaudiya Nritya, the classical dance of Bengal, was held in Kolkata on the 9th of December.
 
CALCUTTA, India - Dec. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Over 100 artists from all over India participated in this event. Guru Sreemati Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Dean- Faculty of Fine Arts at Rabindra Bharati University, and reviver of Gaudiya Nritya, was felicitated for her outstanding contribution to this art. the day also saw the release of a feature documentary- JAYAMANA MRINMOYEE, which showcased the life and work of Dr. Mahua Mukherjee. the documentary, initially made in Bengali, will be translated into English and sent to short-film festivals in select circuits worldwide in the coming months.

The world's first comprehensive web portal and social media platform on Gaudiya Nritya- www.gaudiyanritya.org, was also unveied at the festival.

The way was declared as the 'INTERNATIONAL GAUDIYA NRITYA DAY', and will be celebrated every year on 9th December, to increase the awareness of Gaudiya Nritya worldwide.

Soumen Ghosh, founder and creative head of Gadurr Media, said that the dance festival, the web portal and the documentary were part of their strategy to increase the awareness of this classical dance form, which he says many fellow Bengalis are also unaware of. Soumen further added that Gadurr Media was in the process of coming up with an exciting promotional video for Gaudiya Nritya, which will be shown on local and regional channels in the country.

Col. Sabyasachi Bagchi, Chairman of the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Limited, inaugurated the cultural event as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Manabendu Banerjee, Secretary of the Asiatic Society and recipient of the Presidential Award in Sanskrit Literature, presided over the occasion.

Gaudiya Nritya is the classical dance of Bengal. It derived its name from Gaur, or ancient Bengal, and the dance form was revived by Guru Sreemati Dr. Mahua Mukherjee after three decades of hard work and perseverance. She has performed Gaudiya Nritya at numerous festivals and occasions in the United States, Europe and Asia.  Dr. Mukherjee is currently the Dean- Faculty of Fine Arts at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
