FORT GARLAND, Colo. - Dec. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- When the biggest retail chains across America are closing stores and posting record lows in their stock prices there is cause for concern. With less money to go around it affects everyone’s bottom line. As jobs become scarce people are scared and are looking for ways to earn a living.

You see dog trainers, pet sitters and dog walkers springing up everywhere. The problem is that there aren’t enough pets for all these businesses to survive. The other problem is that most of these people have no idea how hard being in business is.

The new kids on the block may have some skills in dog training or other pet related business, but they are ill equipped for the harsh realities of building a business. That doesn’t mean they can’t take some of your business and make it harder for you. Being part of a large training organization can’t shield you from this. http://www.prlog.org/12253279-news-dog-trainers-must-change-how-they-do-business-if-they-want-to-survive-in-the-current-economy.html

How do you survive these highs and lows? You must stay absolutely focused on your business and the service you provide. You must also remember that you are in the people training business first and the dog training business second.

You must keep up to date with the latest trends occurring within the pet industry and be willing to move with them. If you aren’t good at sales then you are behind the eight ball. Everything is selling. It begins with an enquiry that you convert to a sale.

When you get to your clients home you must sell your services again. Just because they agreed for you to come to their home and train their dog doesn’t mean that they are going to buy into your methods. You must now convince them that the training plan you are going to create for them is worth their follow through.

Once you have accomplished all this then you must convince them to recommend you and your dog training services to others. If you are lost and thinking that sounds like a lot of work, then you need to consider if you want to continue as a dog trainer.

“Dog trainers who know how to communicate well with animals but lack the skills of communicating effectively with owners will always struggle” said Naomi Hunter of Naomi Hunter Consulting. This is one of the main reasons we see dog trainers come and go.

The idea of being a dog trainer is much harder than the reality of running a successful dog training business. This is why author Naomi Hunter wrote “Why Your Dog Training Business Is Failing”.
