Are you living your life on this earth as an ambassador or a tourist?  Not sure? Well, here’s how you can know.

A tourist speaks for himself and conveys his own opinions.  He spends his time pleasing himself, pursuing personal interests and fulfilling his own wants and desires.  He considers himself to be independent and self-sufficient, depending on his own power and ability to provide for his needs and honor his words.

An ambassador has a completely different perspective.  He conveys no personal opinion but only those of the One he represents.  He spends his time carrying out the assignments and policies entrusted to him.  He depends on the One he represents to provide for his personal needs and to stand behind the words he speaks.

II Corinthians 5:19-20 says this,  “…that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ (http://www.familyfoundations.com/2013/09/ambassador-or-to...), as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

When we are born-again, we become partakers of a new covenant with our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. And in that covenant we find that we have become His ambassadors on earth.

Isn’t it amazing that the God of the universe has placed His faith in us.  He has backed us with His authority and power.  He trusts that we will represent Him correctly and help reconcile the people of this world to Him.  What a privilege and what a responsibility.

About the Author

Having a specific interest in ministering to marriages and families, Craig Hill pursued an internship and later a volunteer staff position at the New Life Counseling Center in Denver. He subsequently taught counseling and missions on the faculty of the Marilyn Hickey Bible College.
