KENNESAW, Ga. - Dec. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Dr. Patty Poulter, in her first year as Dean of the College of the Arts at Kennesaw State University, has been elected to the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD) Board of Directors (http://www.icfad.org). She won the election during the recent annual meeting held in New Orleans.

ICFAD Board Member Daniel G. Guyette, Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Western Michigan University, said, “I am thrilled at Dean Poulter's election to the Board of Directors of ICFAD. To be elected to such an important role in her first year as a dean demonstrates the respect and confidence the membership has in her abilities. Dean Poulter brings a fresh perspective, keen intellect and thoughtful approach to the Board and I look forward to working with her in the years to come.”

Founded in 1964, the ICFAD membership is comprised of more than 400 deans and arts executives in higher education throughout North America and around the world. ICFAD is the only organization focusing exclusively on issues that impact deans and Associate Deans of all creative areas in higher education including fine and performing arts, arts education, art history, architecture and communication.

Dr. Tymas-Jones, Dean of the Fine Arts at the University of Utah, has worked with Dr. Poulter since she was an Associate Dean at Eastern Illinois University.

He said, “She’s been an extraordinary member of the organization as an associate dean prior to her recent appointment. She was very active among the associate dean membership and would pull together and work with her fellow associate deans to shape presentations that would be effective for their professional development. As a member of the Board of Directors of the organization, she will definitely continue to bring insight and opportunities from a perspective of a comprehensive institute. I feel that, among the leaders of the Board, she will definitely have an impact.”

One of the roles of ICFAD is to train new deans and hone the talents of those who will be rising into leadership.

Dean Valerie Morris of the College of Charleston said, “I am delighted that Dean Patty Poulter has joined the Board. As you may imagine, an organization comprised primarily of deans has high standards and expectations for its leaders. This election is an indicator of the regard that her colleagues have for her. Given her extensive experience as both a performing artist and as an arts administrator, along with her previous involvement with the group through its Cultivation and Stewardship Task Force and through other means, I am sure that Dean Poulter will do much to enhance ICFAD as it moves beyond the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary to face the challenges of a changing world. Congratulations!”

Dr. Poulter said, “I am very honored to be serving on the Board for ICFAD and working with such a fantastic group of people. I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.”
