By: Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort “LVSSR has been very fortunate. We were spared during the Carpenter One Fire this summer and have received a fantastic base of snow to start our ski and snowboard season,” said Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR’s president and general manager. “We want the Las Vegas community to know that there is not an increased risk of avalanche danger at this time. Our team of snow safety experts have systems in place to monitor and safeguard the ski area.” Prior to LVSSR’s opening day, officials issued an avalanche advisory asking the community to avoid visiting LVSSR as crews prepared for the area’s Friday, November 29 opening. “We were thrilled to receive snow before our scheduled opening day. At the time, our team of snow safety experts were not yet working at full capacity,” said Stickelman. “Our goal then was to allow our team to assemble, assess the snow and ensure the safety of the area for a successful opening day.” He notes that anytime LVSSR receives snow during the season their snow safety team does a full and thorough assessment of snow and avalanche conditions. “This is standard practice in the ski resort industry and should not raise concerns,” he said. “Safety is always first.” LVSSR’s snow safety team posts the most up-to-date information on snow and avalanche conditions on the area’s website, www.skilasvegas.com.
