Brown, MD, a New York psychiatrist who practices Integrative Medicine, will present with Master Robert Peng a three-day workshop for therapists and the public, December 6-8, 2013 at New York Insight Meditation Center, 28 West 27th Street, 10thfloor, Manhattan, New York, entitled “Eight Cycles of Elixir Light Qigong with Breath~Body~ Classes will include rounds of movements, breathing, and meditation. Master Peng will lead flowing meditative movements from the "Eight Cycles" of Elixir Light Qigong (a Shaollin Buddhist tradition). The breath work will be a fusion of yoga, Qigong and a Russian orthodox technique (similar to what Dr. Brown has taught previously at NYI). The meditation will be "Small Heavenly Circuit" (also known as Microcosmic Orbit) from Shaolin Buddhism and Open Focus Meditation (derived from Zen Buddhism). Chanting and other practices may be used to further enhance the group experience. The classes will conclude with an ancient group healing process not previously taught at NYI. New York Insight is a center for the practice of “mindful” awareness, also known as Insight or Vipassana meditation. The center’s programs include talks, weekly sittings, silent retreats, and workshops for the integration of meditation teachings into daily life. “Our center is a place where everyone—of different ages, nationalities, cultures, languages, ethnicities, sexual orientation, and spiritual backgrounds— Suggested starting donation is $20 for the evening event, and $40 for the day long sessions. Whatever the attendee can offer will be greatly appreciated; Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops have helped thousands of people deal with everyday stress and enabled survivors of trauma and mass disasters to recover their health and well-being. Robert Peng is the founder of Elixir Light Qigong. He began his Qigong apprenticeship with legendary monk Xiao Yao when he was a boy. As part of his training he fasted without water in a dark, underground chamber for one hundred days. From this experience Peng developed extraordinary spiritual powers and healing abilities. He teaches and lectures on all continents. His book Qigong Master: My Life and Secret Teaching was published in 2010.
