New York, NY - Richard P. Brown, MD, a New York psychiatrist who practices Integrative Medicine, will present with Master Robert Peng a three-day workshop for therapists and the public, December 6-8, 2013 at New York Insight Meditation Center, 28 West 27th Street, 10thfloor, Manhattan, New York, entitled “Eight Cycles of Elixir Light Qigong with Breath~Body~Mind®.” The Friday session is from 7 pm to 9 pm; the Saturday session is from 10 am to 5 pm and the Sunday session is from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. There will be teacher support following the Buddhist Dana tradition.

Classes will include rounds of movements, breathing, and meditation. Master Peng will lead  flowing meditative movements from the "Eight Cycles" of Elixir Light Qigong (a Shaollin Buddhist tradition). The breath work will be a fusion of yoga, Qigong and a Russian orthodox technique (similar to what Dr. Brown has taught previously at NYI).  The meditation will be "Small Heavenly Circuit" (also known as Microcosmic Orbit) from Shaolin Buddhism and Open Focus Meditation (derived from Zen Buddhism).  Chanting and other practices may be used to further enhance the group experience. The classes will conclude with an ancient group healing process not previously taught at NYI.

New York Insight is a center for the practice of “mindful” awareness, also known as Insight or Vipassana meditation. The center’s programs include talks, weekly sittings, silent retreats, and workshops for the integration of meditation teachings into daily life.  “Our center is a place where everyone—of different ages, nationalities, cultures, languages, ethnicities, sexual orientation, and spiritual backgrounds—is welcome to begin or deepen meditation practice based on the teachings of the Buddha,” states Joseph Schmidt, Executive Director.

Suggested starting donation is $20 for the evening event, and $40 for the day long sessions. Whatever the attendee can offer will be greatly appreciated; no one is turned away for lack of funds. All donations support the teachers. The phone number at New York Insight Meditation Center is (212)213-4802. The web site is nyimc.org, and the e-mail is info at nyimc.org.  Saturday and Sunday are intended as one session. The Friday class may be taken as one session or in addition to the weekend. Classes are appropriate for practitioners of all levels.
