By: FBU Team Seattle Kent, WA 5, December, 2013— A talented group of local youth football players from several Puget Sound leagues has been selected to Team Seattle. The team represents western Washington in the country's largest youth football event, the FBU National Championship Tournament. The invitation-only tournament pits athletes at the highest levels against each other. Some of these players are already garnering national attention for their football prowess. The tournament is structured much like the NCAA college basketball tournament, with 64 teams each of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from around the U.S. And Canada competing in a single elimination bracket format. Sub-regional winners advance to regional tournament games, with the tournament culminating in the FBU National Championship game in San Antonio, TX. Team Seattle meets Team Oregon in the Northwest first round matchup Saturday, December 7th at 10am. The winner will play the winner of the other Northwest region game, Eastern Washington / Northern Idaho against British Columbia, on Sunday, December 8th. All three Northwest games will be played at Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, WA. The northwest region winner travels to Sacramento, CA the following weekend to compete against other sub-regional winners for a chance to play in the FBU National Championship game. Held in the Alamo Dome during bowl weekend, the FBU National Championship game gives kids a rare opportunity to compete on a national stage, in an environment typically reserved for Division 1 college athletes or high school all-stars. Local players hail from cities throughout the region, including Renton, Seattle, Kent, Kirkland, White River, Covington, Snohomish, Tacoma, Puyallup University Place, Graham, Lynnwood, Burien, Federal Way, Bellevue, and Mercer Island. All participants were hand-picked to by a selection committee of coaches for their athletic ability, football skills, and leadership exhibited during the 2013 football season. The kids play an exciting brand of football at a level which belies their age. They are seeking public support for the teams, via game attendance, through social media on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, and fund raising efforts. They hope to see a strong turnout to give them a 12th man type of home field advantage as they take on Oregon this Saturday morning.
