PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - Dec. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- On December 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington, located at 556 Peninsula Blvd., Hempstead, New York, Officer Dolores Sharpe, who is an African-American woman and veteran of the Nassau County Police Department will be joined by members of several law enforcement groups to address her wrongful treatment, false arrest and abuse at the hands of fellow Nassau County Police Officers. The mistreatment of Officer Sharpe by Officers Charles L. Volpe and Victor J. Gladitz is not an event that is being taken lightly as will be evident by the number of police organizations throughout Nassau and New York State that will speak on her behalf.

On Friday, November 29, 2013 Officer Sharpe was confronted by another member of the Department who exhibited an uncontrolled level of aggression, abusive language and vindictive nature [that clearly places the public at risk]. Officer Charles L. Volpe’s decision to become vulgar, verbally abusive and physically threatening to Officer Sharpe, along with the use of verbal threats and unnecessary physical force by Officer Victor J. Gladitz, who are both out of the Fifth Precinct, mark a series of improper acts against Officer Sharpe that not only violated her rights as a citizen, but violated numerous procedures, rules and regulations for which each of these officers should be made to answer. Then the misuse of arrest, and the filing of false charges of Resisting Arrest against Officer Sharpe has only served to make a bad situation worse. Any claim of resisting arrest against Officer Sharpe is nothing short of ludicrous, and can only be seen as an attempt by the subject officers to cover up their own wrongful and discriminatory acts. Their complete disdain and ongoing verbal abuse of Officer Sharpe is seen as a clear exhibition of racial bias that was evident from Officer Volpe’s opening barrage of curses and insults.

The demand for the dismissal of all charges, immediate restoration of Officer Sharpe to her duties with full pay and that she have her weapons and property returned to her will be made. Officer Sharpe was forced to endure the act of being cursed at; handcuffed in public; having the unauthorized removal of her service weapon from her; disrespected in multiple ways; having her credentials snatched from her possession; and then physically grabbed, slammed, and handled by the officers all without reason or legal authority. Not only was this incident one which subjected Officer Sharpe to an extreme level of humiliation, but the clear attempt by these two officers was to personally degrade her and deprive her of any sense of dignity. Officer Sharpe will appear at the Press Conference with her Attorney, Frederick K. Brewington along with members of Law Enforcement Alliance, Blacks in Law Enforcement of America, Long Island Chapter and other supporters to relate how this was an act of abuse that cannot be tolerated.

The press is invited to join Officer Sharpe and other members of the police community and the community at large on December 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington, located at 556 Peninsula Blvd., Hempstead, New York.

DIRECTIONS: Southern State Parkway to Exit 19N toward Peninsula Blvd. N/Hempstead. Merge onto Carolina Ave. Turn right onto Peninsula Blvd., then left onto President St. Take the first right onto Tyler Ave., then make a right onto W. Peninsula Blvd. Law firm will be on the right-hand side.
