By: vistra Formed in Dayton in 1959, The Ohio Players came into musical prominence in the 1970s as pioneers of street funk and underground R&B. After signing with Mercury Records in 1974 through 1977, The Ohio Players landed three consecutive platinum albums “Skin Tight, “Fire”, and “Honey.” This year’s dynamic Music Fest also features a number of other legendary acts that are sure to soothe the souls of all attendees. “We are eager to head to Tampa to perform at the Music Fest. We are thankful to still have a large, loyal fan base who come to the shows and are enthusiastic to hear the original sounds from the 70s,” commented James “Diamond” William, the band’s original drummer. The Ohio Players have traveled the world, produced more than a dozen albums and received 14 gold and platinum awards! They also appeared on national television programs including Dick Clark, Don Kushner, and David Letterman. The Ohio Players today are one of the few bands from the 70s era who still currently perform all of their music using no computers or samplers to enhance their musical production. They continue to entertain crowds of people all over the world, who sing their songs and dance to the melodies and funky grooves. The group is currently working on an album set to be released spring 2014. In August 2013, The Ohio Players were inducted into the first class of the R&B Music Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
