CINCINNATI - Dec. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Many think the HIV/AIDS epidemic has gone away, because it rarely makes the news today. But the truth is: HIV/AIDS transmission is still at epidemic levels, but the face of AIDS has changed.  African Americans are disproportionately infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in the United States.

It's time “The Silence Is Broken” and we refocus the public’s attention on the persistent need to halt the spread of AIDS in ALL communities. Educating the public and raising funds for IV-CHARIS, Greater Cincinnati’s trail blazing faith-based and African American run HIV/AIDS outreach, testing and counseling service, will be the focus of its yearly fundraiser Dec. 6, 6-8:30 p.m. at CrosswordsCommunityChurch, 3500 Madison Rd., 45209.

The price is just $35 for both dinner and the screening of the star studded “The Silence Is Broken,” the award winning feature length film produced by Cincinnati native and SCPA graduate Patrick Gandy. Actors such as T.C. Carson and Loretta Devine star in the film. All proceeds will go to IV-CHARIS (Compassionate Hearts Assisting, Rebuilding, Instructing and Serving), a 501 (c)(3) organization.

“We are so thrilled to have an opportunity to show this film at our annual fundraiser,” said Mamie Harris, founder and executive director for IV-CHARIS. “Patrick Gandy has created a compelling but still entertaining film that combines up-to-date facts on HIV/AIDS with the creative and performing arts. It uses world class composers, musicians, actors and singers to make the point that the AIDS battle isn’t close to being won. It does a great job, using the arts, to say we have to continue to reach out and halt the spread of AIDS and continue to raise funds to find a real cure.”

This evening will feature: a LIVE spoken word piece by Elament of Elamental Concepts LLC (https://www.facebook.com/cincypoetrylife?directed_target_...), great food and a live raffle with outstanding items donated by local merchants.

This year’s fundraiser is especially critical, because of the agency’s need to make u p for a significant reduction in funding from HamiltonCounty’s Public Health. An anonymous donor has agreed to triple the proceeds from each $35 ticket sold, turning each ticket sale into a $105 donation.
