Nov. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- (London, UK) - Justina Mutale, African Woman of the Year and Founder/CEO of POSITIVE RUNWAY: Global Catwalk to Stop the Spread addressed the European Leadership Conference at the Houses of Parliament and the House of Lords in London, on Thursday and Friday 21-22 November 2013.

The Conference was part of the activities of "PARLIAMENT WEEK" and part of a series of major events in National Parliaments including the United Nations in Geneva and Vienna, as well as the European Parliament in Brussels focused on issues of Human Rights, Human Development, the European Relationship with Africa and the Future of Multiculturalism.

Conference organizers believe that Human rights issues are a driving force behind many current events. The Conference addressed the role of democracy in promoting and protecting 'Human Rights', while remembering Edmund Burke quotation, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men (and good women) to do nothing."

The Conference also considered the question 'Human Rights: Are Democratic Nations Upholding A Better Standard?' and included Sessions on; "Inter-Religious Inclusion in Europe", "Responsible Sourcing of Conflict Minerals", "Women's Leadership in Peace and Democracy", "The Human Rights of Immigrants and Refugees in Europe" and "Youth Human Rights & The Right to an Education".

A staunch advocate for human rights and women’s rights, Ms Mutale  spoke on the topic: Women’s Increased/Equal Participation in the Political Decision-Making Process Essential to Sustainable Growth: An African Perspective”.

In addition to being African Woman of the Year 2012, Ms Mutale has been featured as a Hero in the Capital Finance International Journal, which brings coverage and analysis of the drivers behind change by combining the views of leading multilateral and national organizations with thought leadership from some of the world’s top minds. Ms Mutale serves as Ambassador for Gender Equality and Spokesperson for the International Women’s Think Tank based in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA, which promotes intellectual research, critical thinking and innovative solutions on issues related to women and girls including social, economic and political empowerment.  Ms Mutale also serves on the Advisory Board of the World Leaders Forum based in Dubai, which aims to bring together world leaders from politics, business, church, community and other walks of life to address Global Challenges of the 21st Century in pursuit of a “Sustainable Future for All.  Ms Mutale was recently awarded the Professional Leadership Award in New York and has been nominated as the 2014 Global African Goodwill Ambassador in Los Angeles California.  She is one of only 13 women selected to be featured in a TV Series on Eminent African Women and in books on “Women Who Are Contributing to Sustainable Development of the World” published in Paris, and “Women Who Changed Africa”, published in New York.
