The hospitality business is one of the few careers that give people the chance to advance from entry level positions to the high paid positions of Director of Sales or General Manager. Do you need a certificate to obtain these lucrative positions?

Nov. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- 90% or more of todays General Managers and Director of Sales started at lower level positions.  They started at the front office, bell desk, concierge, housekeeping, accounting, or even as a waiter.  It can take approximately 7-15 years or more to advance to the higher paid positions.

The good news is that experience is the key to a succcessful career in the hotel business.  There are plenty of cases where a high school graduate advanced to the Director of Sales or General Manager position.  A college degree is helpful, but not neccessary for success.  It can be done, the question is can you afford to work at the lower salary levels until you climb the ladder.

If you need to earn 40-60 thousand plus bonus, it would be best to start in the middle at a hotel sales or catering manager level position.  Try  ecornell.com or www.pdqedge.com for reasonably priced certificates that can help you land these jobs.  The nice thing about starting in the middle is that you have the potential to move up fairly fast from there and achieve 75-100 thosuand or more salary levels after 4-6 years.  Also, after one or two years of experience you become fairly attractive to competing hotels that often offer attractive compensation packages to switch from one hotel to a competitor.  Of course........the reason, they want you for your experience and client connections.

Do you need a certificate to be successful in the hospitality business?  Absolutdely not.  Hundreds of people started at the bottom and worked their way up to the top.  In fact, many started at the very bottom and advanced to Vice Presidents of Operations, or Regional Directors of Sales, and numerous other highly compensated positons.

But if you don't have the time to start at the bottom, Try starting in the middle at 40-60 thousand salary positions.  But to start at mid-level position such as a sales or catering manager, you benefit greatly from a hospitality certificate or degree.
