Marathon Walk On Broken Glass For Philippines

Stan Lee Superhuman To Smash World Record For Philippines Relief Fund

Nigel Jardine based in Horsforth Leeds is not content with 3 World Records for walking on broken glass, he is now raising money for the DEC appeal by undertaking the World's first Marathon on broken glass. That's 42.2 Km in the space of approximately 43 hours, with only a 5 minute comfort break each hour. Nigel said "since my World Records in 2009, I've never stopped thinking about being the first person to walk the Marathon distance. When I heard about the disaster in the Philippines, I knew the time had come". His aim is to bring as much awareness of the walk as possible to make a significant contribution to the Philippines Appeal.

As a child, Nigel was bottom of almost every class. For years, he endured both physical and mental abuse both at home and at school. Finally, at the age of 15, with no qualifications, his father signed him up for a 4 year apprenticeship to become a mechanic. There was no option for him to quit and, as an escape from this life, he found a passion for cycling, reaching Olympic standard at 17 years of age. The physical and mental challenges of sport and work still keep Nigel focused and determined to make a difference to achieve through adversity.

At 60, Nigel's story is testament to how we can make a difference to ourselves and others. He has trained his mind and body to go through pain and create a positive state. He was recently featured on Stan Lee's Superhuman TV show  (History 2 - USA), where he walked on broken glass on fire at 1000 deg C - skin burns at 400 deg. The programme has been, and continues to be broadcast across Europe and the USA.

The Marathon glass walk will take place at 73 New Road Side Horsforth Leeds from 8pm Tuesday 10th December 2013, until approximately 2pm on Thursday 12th December 2013.
