Emterra Group CEO Emmie Leung Named 2013 Canadian Waste Sector Executive of the Year

BURLINGTON, Ontario - Nov. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Canadian waste entrepreneur Emmie Leung founded what is now Emterra Group 37 years ago, garnering many prestigious business and environmental awards along the way. For 2013, Leung adds Executive of the Year in the Canadian Waste Sector - Large Private Business category.  Leung was selected by a committee representing waste and recycling organizations from Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

The award was presented at the Ontario Waste Management Association at the Canadian Waste and Recycling Expo hosted in Montreal, Quebec.  Upon accepting the award, Leung beamed, “This is the Oscar of the waste management industry and I am both overwhelmed and honoured to be recognized by my peers for my business achievements.”

The criteria for achieving the honour of Executive of the Year award in the Canadian Waste Sector focuses on individuals who demonstrate leadership in the growth in the Canadian waste services industry. Leung's Emterra group has a track record of waste management industry innovation. From launching the largest CNG refuse truck fleet in North America to transforming waste into marketable resources; from driving up solid waste recovery in municipalities to recycling 99%+ of all tires collected and turning liquid waste into eco-friendly windshield washer fluid. Nearly 70% of 500,000 tonnes of Emterra recycled materials are sold within North America as new product inputs.

Starting as a “one woman operation”, Emterra Group (http://www.Emterra.ca) now operates three Canadian divisions including Emterra Environmental; Emterra Tire Recycling and Canadian Liquids Processors. Leung’s ambition for expanding her innovative waste management solutions now extends beyond Canada, having launched Emterra USA in Michigan earlier this year (http://www.emterrausa.com/). Emterra now operates 21 material recovery facilities and operating locations with a fleet of 550 vehicles and over 1000 employees. Emterra serves over 80 Canadian communities serving 10% of the Canadian population.
