By: Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC)
HACKENSACK, N.J. - Nov. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC), Nurse Practitioners Alternatives (NPA), and The France Foundation are presenting two live educational forums that will provide up-to-date information on the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS).   AIMS (Advances in Multiple Sclerosis) will take place Dec. 6th, at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel in Philadelphia, PA,  and Dec.13th, at the Hotel Vintage Plaza in Portland, OR.  These complimentary half-day sessions will provide neurologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, rehabilitation professionals, and other health care professionals with the latest information about this complex disease of young adults.

“This is an exciting time in the treatment of MS, with 10 disease modifying treatments now FDA-approved for MS, and additional agents in phase 3 clinical trials or under FDA review.  Decision-making is more important than ever and requires a careful and complete discussion between the person with MS and a knowledgeable health care professional,” said Ruth Whitham, MD, Professor of Neurology at the Oregon Health & Science University and Educational Chair of the AIMS in Portland.

The agenda for both live meetings will include:

Hot Topics: What’s New in MS Diagnosis and Management; including new information on the immunopathology of MS and the use of MRI

MS Treatments: What’s the Best Approach for the Individual Patient

Strategies:Identify, Address, and Improve Barriers to Patient Adherence to MS Therapies

Participants will also participate in interactive case discussions and question and answer sessions.

Brenda Banwell, MD, Educational Chair of the Philadelphia program, and Division Chief, Neurology, Professor of Pediatrics (Neurology), Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, says that attendees will learn that “Advances in MS care include multiple new oral and infusion therapies. The safe and efficacious application of these exciting new options requires careful consideration of the clinical features of a given patient, estimation of risk, and vigilant monitoring.”

Joining Dr. Banwell in the program on Dec. 6th are Michael D. Kaufman, MD, Director, Multiple Sclerosis Center, Carolinas Medical Center and Lynn Stazzone, RN, MSN, NP, Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

The other faculty members with Dr. Whitham on the Dec. 13th program are Michele K. Mass, MD. Associate Professor of Neurology, Oregon Health and Science University; and Ms. Stazzone.
