By: Tudor World Christmas was the greatest festival celebrated by the Tudor's spanning twelve days from December 25th to January 6th. Most of these twelve days were Saint's Days with the most important ones being December 25th, January 1st and January 6th, which is when the greatest feasts and celebrations were held. Show participants will be invited to join in the 12 days of Christmas. Another Christmas tradition was the performance of plays called ‘Mumming’ and mystery plays, where actors performed their plays and dances in villages and great houses. Many productions were morality plays where the actors were dressed as virtues, but an evolution during the Tudor reign started to include various games and song and dance. A few members of the audience will be invited to participate in the Mumbers’ Plays. Although, such things as Christmas Trees and Christmas cards as we know them today were a long way off, Christmas Carols were certainly already very much part of a Tudor Christmas and the show will end with a carol or two! Janet and John Ford, owners of Tudor World said “we are pleasantly surprised by the level of interest in the productions. At this time of year where every penny counts, the shows which are included in entry to the museum are a welcome addition for families and couples alike”. After the shows and museum, visitors are encouraged to sample the other delights of Stratford upon Avon such as the wonderful shops, Christmas markets and of course the 3D lightshow in Henley Street from 4.30pm. The Christmas Shows, which take place in the rustic Elizabethan Theatre area at Tudor World in Sheep Street, and are included in the entry price are over three weekends leading up to Christmas: Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December; Saturday 7th December and Sunday 8th December; Saturday 14th December and Sunday 15th December. Show times: 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm End
