7 on 7 State Championship North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. - Nov. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- 7 on 7 football was designed as an off-season workout program for high school and now middle school football teams to promote and improve the quality of quarterbacks, receivers, secondary and linebackers. Schools, organizations, and friends throughout North Carolina organize teams and participate in a spring league that culminates with a pre-season state championship tournament in July. Teams do not have to participate in the spring league to be eligible for the 7 on 7 State Championship. The fast-paced, high-scoring, offense-oriented competition is as exciting for the fans to watch as it is for the players and coaches who participate.

The 7 on 7 format is popular among teams around the United States as a method to keep players in shape and enhance their fundamentals and game knowledge during the spring and summer months. The game emphasizes passing using a 45-yard field and a one-hand touch for a tackle. All players, except the center, are eligible receivers. The game is played in two 22-minute continuous halves. Uniforms consist of shorts and T-shirts with no pads. Although it is a non-contact sport, athletes wear a helmet and mouthpiece for safety.

Various businesses, chambers of commerce, media outlets, and community organizations join forces to run the North Carolina 7 on 7 State Championship on the 3rd weekend of July each year. The 7 on 7 State Championship aids the sports community in improving its commitment to promoting high school football in North Carolina.

Organizers of the 7 on 7 State Championship in North Carolina follows the example of similar tournaments in other states which have a healthy impact on the local economy. The “big” sister tournament in Texas has approximately a $1 million impact on its local economy during its 3 day event. Currently, It’s undecided what city the 2014 event will be held in North Carolina, but last years event in Wake Forest included over 1,200 athletes, 300+ high school coaches and their families and fans.

This years tournament will be a two day event which guarantees each team 6 games. Varsity teams are separated in four divisions, while JV teams and this years new 14U teams will have only one division each. To promote team and state unity, the tournament also includes the State Championships for:  1) Kicking, 2) Punting, 3) Long-Snapping, and a 4) Lineman Challenge. All events are free with the exception of a $50 referee fee for the 7 on 7 tournament. Between play coaches are provided a free dinner, breakfast and a mini-clinic with college coaches. The weekend also includes other activities for players and fans.

This year’s tournament is an open invitation for high school football teams of all divisions but it is expected that the following years will be invitation only by the 7 on 7 State Championship committee. Several teams have already signed up for the tournament as to not miss out on the tournaments 50 team cap. It is shaping up to be another fantastic kick off to the 2014 football season.
