Follow on Google News | New Book Honors Coventry’s Legendary LocalsLocal author celebrates notable residents using spectacular, vintage images
Vintage images coupled with facts and anecdotes culled by local author Andrew D. Boisvert reveal the fascinating history of legendary locals in Coventry. Modern Coventry has made many advances since its bygone days of being the Lace Capital of Rhode Island. Today its proud residents still identify with the village they live in and value a strong sense of community as shown within the pages of Boisvert’s new book. The book covers both town greats and unsung heroes like Samuel Gorton, a friend of the Native Americans who fought for religious freedom; George Potter, a Medal of Honor recipient for his service in the Civil War; Byron Read, who opened the town’s first furniture emporium; Ray Gandy, who swam the English Channel; Linda Crotta Brennan, who has provided the children with many stories; Lauren Costa, who presents the news of the day; and Philip Johnson, who was a Boston Post Cane recipient. Boisvert is excited to share the new book with the community. “I hope this new book will inspire current residents of Coventry to become future legendary locals,” he said. The book will be available at events, area bookstores, independent retailers, online retailers, and through the publisher at www.legendarylocals.com or (888)-313-2665. # # # Legendary Locals is an imprint of Arcadia Publishing, the nation’s leading publisher of local and regional history in the United States.
