MOBILE, Ala. - Nov. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Grand Bay, AL. Nov. 25, 2013.  A special group of Gulf Coast residents and their children will visit Tri-Coastal Community Outreach in Grand Bay today at 4:00 p.m. to assist Center volunteers in the preparation of over 100 boxes that will be distributed Tuesday, November 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to over 100 pre-selected families in the Gulf Coast area.

For more than four years, this group has provided turkeys, hams and other dinner supplies to Tri-Coastal’s Thanksgiving food distribution program. Each Thanksgiving box is intended to feed a family of four to six. Yearly, the group collects donations from co-workers at a Pascagoula shipyard.  In 2012, the group provided over 100 turkeys and 18 hens for the Thanksgiving dinners.  The group started bringing their families several years ago to fill the boxes for distribution.  And, each year it grows.

“We appreciate the efforts of our donors and their families for their continued support for our programs,” said Carolyn Thompson, executive director.

Thompson said while she is giving thanks with her family, she will also be thinking of others.  "I know that there's 100 to 150 families being able to do the exact same thing with a smile on their face and not worried about 'How am I going to afford this for this day?' If just for one day, "she added.

“We want to be able to help make their holiday season a joyous one, especially those families who have children or are without family. “It is great when we can provide them with a special holiday meal,” said Thompson.

Tri-Coastal Community has served more than 55.000 individuals in the past year alone and was formed in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina. The organization can still use toy donations and food for the Christmas holiday.
