Evan Guthrie Law Firm Talks About Youth Court In Presentation To Students In Goose Creek, SC

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Nov. 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina made a presentation about the advantages of Youth Court to students at Goose Creek High School in Goose Creek, SC on Tuesday May 14^th 2013. The presentation had the goal of getting students at Goose Creek interested in Youth Court as a new after school activity. Youth Court allows high school students to handle real cases with real people. The program lets students play the roles of lawyers on both sides of the case with prosecution and defense, judges, bailiffs, and other court roles of cases involving other high school students as their peers. Students are given a case file for a minor offense such as a traffic offense, underage drinking, or fighting in school and are allowed to ask for more evidence in discovery to help them prepare and work the case. Students then use the evidence to investigate and put together their case as well as prepare an opening statement, direct and cross examination, and a closing statement. The students then go to a real court and go to trial with the case. The program was offered as an extracurricular activity in which students would stay after school to participate in the activities.

Many students attended the information session and listened to speakers including Attorney Guthrie and Evan Guthrie Law Firm Community Outreach Events Coordinator, Julie Chen who let the students know of the numerous benefits that are a part of taking part in Youth Court including improving a college application and working on research and public speaking skills. Attorney Guthrie committed to attending the program meetings on a regular basis to help support the program and lend his knowledge as a lawyer. Mr. Guthrie looked forward to new law program getting off the ground at Goose Creek High School and a high level of participation and enthusiasm from the students
