Non-profit organizations An organization involved in promoting or conducting programs connected to the environment which, whether locally focused or statewide, deserve recognition for their significance to Michigan’s environment. B. Colleges/Schools A college, school or educational organization which deserves statewide recognition for education of people for work in the environmental field. C. Environmental Projects This can be a one of a kind project that improves the environment or a long term project that serves to promote a certain environmental message, either locally or broadly focused, worthy of statewide recognition. D. Business/Industry A for-profit company that has, over time, sponsored environmental projects either internally or externally that contribute significantly to improving or restoring Michigan’s environment and environmental sustainability. E. Individual A person who, over a considerable time, has created or contributed to a project or projects that have led to significant protection of or improvement of Michigan’s environment. F. Legacy Circle A posthumous award to recognize individuals who made significant contributions to the conservation or improvement of Michigan’s environment during their lifetime. The application form may be found on our web site: muskegonlakenaturepreserve.org We will be presenting the awards on April 10, 2014 at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids. Our keynote speaker that evening will be Dave Dempsey, author and environmentalist. Some past inductees are: Peter Wege, Gov. William Milken, Tom Bailey, Howard Tanner, Fred Wilder, the Tuscola Intermediate School District, MSU-Extension, Gloria Miller, Robert “Bud” Slinglend. The Michigan Environmental Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Muskegon Environmental Research & Education Society. It is the mission of the Society to support activities and projects that provide opportunities for the public to participate and observe environmental research and to provide environmental educational opportunities for students in the general Muskegon area. We operate the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve in North Muskegon, an environmental laboratory for thousands of area students. End
