Tumblewalla Organic Clothing — Supporting Kids' Right To Play!

Mom “playpreneur” launches crowd-funding campaign to support mission of helping kids (& parents) get more unstructured playtime back in their day

MINNEAPOLIS - Nov. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- A mom “playpreneur” has launched an international crowd-funding campaign to help solidify her business for her mission-oriented and eco-friendly clothing line.  The funds will be utilized to produce Tumblewalla’s spring organic collection, to hold community workshops on the value of play & movement, to create free parent resources with play activities/tips, and to further support and fund their non-profit Tumble & Tickle movement.

In 2011, Sonal Gerten launched Tumblewalla (http://www.tumblewalla.com/) – an organic line of festively colored baby and toddler clothing that can be found in many specialty boutiques across the country.  Her mission is to provide simple ways for kids to get more unstructured play-time back in their day.  Kids are getting 50% less outdoor playtime than just 16 years ago1, and Sonal is out to change that.  The collection is made from 100% premium organic cotton and is intentionally designed to maximize movement right from birth so you won’t find any hoods, footed outfits or hard fabrics – just wash, wear and play.

5% of sales is donated to two non-profit organizations working to eradicate the play deficit we have in our global communities: The Priyanka Foundation, a Minnesota nonprofit that operates Child Life and Development service programs for chronically ill children worldwide; and Many Hopes, which finds, rescues, houses, loves and educates orphaned and abandoned girls and boys in Mtwapa, Kenya and equips them to be the future agents of change in their community.

Watching her own toddler son at play drove home the value of play for Gerten.  “Play is not just a pastime, but a critical component of a child’s physical, social and emotional growth. Some of my happiest moments as a mom are watching my son kick his feet wildly and break into giggles whenever we stop at the playground to build sandcastles or tumble down a slide,” says Sonal Gerten, Founder, Tumblewalla. “But it also reminds me that we are lucky – many kids around the world don’t have access or opportunity to play.”

Small businesses like these take start-up capital, and Tumblewalla is at a critical stage where Gerten says “launching a crowdfunding campaign was necessary in order to grow, increase our community impact and realize our goals of positive change much faster.  We decided to partner with an upcoming rewards based crowdfunding platform called Moola-Hoop that’s specifically designed for women entrepreneurs.”  Depending on the donation amount, supporters can receive clothing from Tumblewalla’s not yet released spring collection, play consultations, headshots and more.
