BURBANK, Calif. - Nov. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- In the wake of recent natural disasters, #StrayProud has become the rally cry for all the lost, abandoned and stray dogs in the United States. The mission of the World Animal Awareness Society (WA2S) is to observe and document human-animal interaction to better understand and identify positive solutions to complex issues such as pet overpopulation and disaster relief.

In its new #StrayProud video contest, the WA2S is urging every dog rescue, shelter, and foster program to submit video of any stray they may have rescued in the last 2 years. Compelling, dramatic, humorous, and even sad stories told with video will have an opportunity to compete for over $22,000 in prizes, stated  Front Street Public Relation's Cheryl Heppard.

The WA2S began accepting video submissions on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, and will close submissions Sunday, December 15, 2013 - with voting continuing on to December 31, 2013. Voting will begin as soon as a video is submitted and will include the most subscribers, most likes, most shares, most comments from unique users and most donations toward the American Strays Project.  Early submissions do have an advantage as they can start garnering attention and votes as soon as the video submission is accepted and posted to the WA2S website.

Any posting of a picture or video about a stray dog must include the hashtag: #StrayProud to be eligible. “Every dog deserves to have a home,” said WA2S Executive Director Tom McPhee. “We’re helping build programs to solve the problems associated with stray Dogs.” The award-winning filmmaker is founder of the society that partners with hundreds of animal welfare organizations, NGOs and corporations to fulfill its mission.

The World Animal Awareness Society has documented many heroic post-disaster rescue missions including animal rescue efforts in Haiti’s earthquake-torn rubble, the Gulf of Mexico’s oily shores and Japan’s radiation zone.

The #StrayProud 2013 Video Contest is a fund-raiser for the research of American Strays Project science which will include 20 video lesson plans for middle school students created with the assistance of teachers using WA2S American Strays Project video. This contest will be hosted on the http://www.WA2S.org website.
