LONDON - Nov. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- - 79% of UK companies will be holding Christmas parties this year (up from 47% in 2011).

- 71% of managers have had to discipline staff last year because of misbehaviour at a Christmas party

More employers will be offering their staff a Christmas party this year, compared to previous years according to the employment law consultancy Peninsula Business Services. Out of 2134 businesses spoken to, 79% of companies will be organising a party for their staff - compared to 47% in 2011. Additionally, 71% of employers disciplined staff because of behaviour antics at the party.

Peter Done, managing director of Peninsula said today, "Sadly for some employees the Christmas party can be their downfall, alcohol fuelled antics can often lead to a run-in with the boss. Workers need to remember that the party is still an extension to the workday; whilst it is fine to have fun you should be aware of your behaviour. Employees say things they shouldn't and this can cause offence with other workers, often leading to complaints which employers do have to take seriously."

Mr Done continues, "When planning a Christmas party bosses need to be aware of the potential risks including; alcohol-fuelled brawls, harassment and discrimination. However, without being a Scrooge, you need to inform employees that they should be on their best behaviour, do not allow them to drink and drive and discipline any staff who cause offence. Ensure there is a manager available to observe and ensure antics do not get out of hand."

Peter Done concludes, "When planned right Christmas parties can have an amazing effect boosting morale, it's a great way to say thank you to your staff and I think that workers appreciate it. What may cost a few pounds in the short term, can go a long way and really gear your workforce up for the New Year ahead."
