LOS ANGELES - Nov. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- History was changed forever on November 22, 1963 when President Kennedy was violently assassinated. For his family and the country, the grief was almost immeasurable.

Now, sharing its respect for this year's 50th Anniversary of the tragic loss of one of America's most beloved Presidents, Auctioncause.com is offering for sale an historic, highly collectable letter sent by Princess Grace Kelly to Mrs. Tom Duffy in December of 1963 handwritten and signed on the Princess' own Royal Stationery. The insightful letter offers an emotional defense of Grace Kelly's conduct following the assassination of JFK, which had been called into question by Charles Cummings, a columnist at the Philadelphia Inquirer, and includes a rare highly personal reflection from the reclusive movie star-turned royal princess of Monaco on her close relationship with the Kennedy family. Grace Kelly sent her beautifully hand written autographed letter to Mrs. Duffy on Monday, December 2nd. In it, she sets the record straight on when the gun photo that stood at the center of the controversy was taken, emotionally describes her feelings for the President and his family, and describes how she, her family, and the people of Monaco reacted to the beloved President's death.

Mrs. Duffy's son Tom reflects on the letter that has been kept away from the autograph collector's market and remained a treasured family keepsake for the last 50 years:

"Having read the Cummings editorial in the Inquirer on the morning of Friday, Nov 29, my mother wrote a scathing letter to Grace and mailed it to her that day at her parents home on Henry Avenue in Philadelphia.

Grace and her husband had not come over for the JFK Funeral and burial services, but had flown in to Philadelphia instead to visit with her parents for a few days before going to D.C. to pay their respects to Mrs. Kennedy and her family.

"Her parents home was only about a mile up the road from our home (they were in the upscale section, we were in the other one) and we were serviced by the same post office (Zone 29 ...19129 today). So my mother wrote and then mailed her letter to Grace at her parents address. Grace received the letter either the following day, Saturday, Nov. 30, or on Monday, Dec. 2, based on the date that she wrote her reply to my mother, Dec. 2.

"(Shown in accompanying photos) is a copy the original article published in the Philadelphia Inquirer dated Friday, November 29 that chastised Grace Kelly for her perceived insensitive conduct following the assassination of President Kennedy, including the photo that got my mother so angry.”

"(Also shown is) the letter that Grace sent to the Inquirer on December 2, after she received Mom’s letter, and the Inquirer’s response."

“We believe the dignity and class shown by Princess Grace Kelly during this bygone Hollywood era is a model for others to follow,” commented Eric Gazin, President of Auction Cause, the agency managing the sale. “Too often, celebrities react rashly to criticism, but in this case, this letter peels back an important veil on the life of a very private woman and timeless, celebrated movie icon that further demonstrates her underlying sincerity and heartfelt concern for what happened. Ownership of this important letter should command strong appeal and great respect among museums, collectors, and Princess Grace's legions of enduring fans.”
