British women typically keep the same hairdresser for 12 years and five months or almost a year longer than the average marriage of 11 years and six months, according to a study carried out by online savings site NetVoucherCodes.co.uk.

Fifty three per cent of women rated their hairdresser in the top ten most important people in their life. And proximity to their hair salon was a prime consideration for nearly one in ten women.

“The relationship between a client and her hairdresser is special,” added Nicky. “Both parties have to be open and honest so that the client always gets the best results.

“I first met some of my current clients when they were children and they now come to see me with children of their own. It just goes to show how important the relationship is.

“However, the Golden Rule is discretion. A hairdresser will never disclose what his client talks about during her appointment. That’s a matter for her and her hairdresser – and no one else!”
