Your Kids Can’t Type! Texting & Gaming does not equal Computer Skills

ASHBURN, Va. - Nov. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Toddlers and preschoolers use touch screens to play games and young children send dozens of text messages daily. However, children as young as second grade are expected to complete classroom assignments on computers where the lack of typing and basic operational skills impact performance. “If your child is unfamiliar with keyboards, creating documents, or saving files, they will miss instruction and loose work time,” notes instructor Kely Davis of Hands In Motion. Many schools don’t offer keyboarding until 6th grade but Davis says that younger children are extremely successful learning typing and computer skills and the benefits last a lifetime.

The new Core Standards require keyboarding proficiency by fourth grade.

New standardized tests require elementary school aged children to input their answers via keyboards and teachers across the nation are pressed to find instruction time in the already packed school days.  Hands In Motion has a fully equipped computer lab and provides typing and basic computer skills for all ages. Hands In Motion client Susanne Miller exclaims, “My daughter’s grades are better and she finishes her homework much faster but the best part is seeing her newfound confidence.” Typing programs cost less than many summer camps for a valuable lifetime skill.
