Alanna Julian is Living Life Her Way

Central Coast Community College student Alanna Julian has been appointed as an Ambassador in the ‘Living Life My Way’ Ambassadors and Champions Program.

GOSFORD, Australia - Nov. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- The program is run by the Department of Family and Community Services NSW, Ageing Disability and Home Care.

Alanna attends the Inclusive Community Education Program (ICEP) at the College.

The role of Ambassador is for one year and involves contributing to events across NSW, speaking at conferences, workshops and meetings for the purpose of sharing her story.

Alanna said, “I am very excited and feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to share my experiences with others.

“I am looking forward to raising awareness of disability issues to communities across the Central Coast,” she said.

Executive Director of Central Coast Community College, Jonathan Davis said he was delighted that Alanna had been chosen for such a prestigious role. He paid tribute to Alanna and the staff who teach in the College’s ICEP Program who contributed greatly to Alanna’s achievement.

“The ICEP Program has been running for three and a half years now, and has proved to be invaluable in the support that it gives to members of our community,” he said.

“It is truly inspiring to see Alanna be appointed as an Ambassador for this Program. By sharing her story Alanna will be able to encourage others and help them build the confidence to manage their own disability supports.

“We know Alanna will do a wonderful job as Ambassador, helping people with a disability explore the options open to them, and we wish her the very best with her studies and plans to become a disability support worker,” Mr Davis said.

One of Alanna’s first official duties as Ambassador will be to speak at the College’s ICEP Christmas party on 23 November. Alanna is also honoured to be opening ‘Discobility’, on Saturday 30 November at Peninsula Community Centre.

“I feel humbled to be asked to open Discobility and I am very much looking forward to it,” Alanna said.

As a ‘Living Life My Way’ Ambassador, Alanna will not act as a government advocate or spokesperson; she will work to raise community awareness and understanding of person centred supports.
