Kidpreneurs Make Money Out of Thin Air In A Weekend!

GOLD COAST, Australia - Nov. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Last weekend saw startup community organisation Silicon Lakes host the second Gold Coast Startup Weekend at the Robina Community Centre. Following the success of the first event back in July this year, Gold Coast City Council have continued their support of this global startup phenomenon which is impacting urban and rural economies around the world. Entrepreneurship at a grass roots level involving men and women of all ages and backgrounds bursting with fantastic ideas.

Winners, Ambleabout.co, in a single weekend created an app which scrapes freely available information from the web and connects it with Google Maps to create short walking tours defined by the user's interests. The team have won a range of prizes including mentoring, legal consulting, and private meetings with local investors to help them scale and grow their new startup.

Event organiser, Greg Burnett states, "It was great to see a number of school-age Entrepreneurs take part in this latest event, with equal runners-up being SketchEzy, founded by 10 year old Rhys Burnett, and Jogga-Dog, founded by 12 year old Kerenza Edwards". "The great benefit of Startup Weekend is that it involves experiential learning, no talk, all action" said Mr. Burnett.

Several Teams by Sunday had confirmed pre-orders and revenue in the bank, highlighting just what is possible when you assemble a bunch of strangers full of passion and amazing ideas, lock them away for 54 hours, and the result is eight cutting edge businesses launched on the Gold Coast over one weekend.
