Sales of Smartphone Security up by +32%

Nov. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- London - Unit sales of smartphone security licenses through Western European Distribution grew +32% in the third quarter of this year compared to last year, according to data published today by CONTEXT, the European IT market research company.

“The Mobile Security market is changing rapidly,” commented Alex Mesguich, VP of Enterprise Research at CONTEXT. “The combination of BYOD in businesses and the proliferation of consumer mobile devices is pushing vendors to create new solutions to cope with new security threats.”

With sales mainly into the consumer segment, European distributors’ mobile security business has seen annual quarterly growth twice so far in 2013, the first in Q113 as a result of increased sales of Android devices and the opportunity taken by distributors to attach security solution software at point of sale.
Another factor affecting growth in Q3 was the reduction of average selling prices in August 2013 for several key territories with the UK noting a significant rise in prices, whereas Italy and Germany recorded a steep decline. August accounted for approximately three quarters of overall Q3-13 unit sales through Western European distribution.

“Mobile security software is increasingly seen as an integral part of mobile computing particularly across Android devices. For many businesses, security software is often seen as a cost effective alternative to deploying extensive Mobile Device Management”, Mesguich added.

CONTEXT notes that within the mobile security segment, Symantec’s Norton Mobile Security v3.0 was top seller, followed by Kaspersky’s Mobile Security for Android.
