New Sikh Art Exhibit Features Pieces from Smithsonian

"Sikh Relics, Sikh Life: Objects and Identity in Contemporary Sikhism" to be on display through April 2014.

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Nov. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Claremont Lincoln University and the Center for Sikh Studies celebrated the Nov. 14 opening of a Sikh art exhibit, which will be on display through May on the main floor of the library at Claremont Lincoln School of Theology, 1325 N. College Ave., Claremont.

The exhibit features relics such as musical instruments, clothing and swords, along with works of art, such as paintings and needlework. Many of the pieces were previously on display at the Smithsonian.

“This exhibit is a collaborative effort between the university and the Sikh community. Several community members worked very hard to get these items to us, and to assist in their display,” said Professor Brianne Donaldson, Director of the Center for Sikh Studies.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. For library hours, visit http://www.cst.edu/library/info/location-hours/.
