CANTERBURY, U.K. - Nov. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- The Fire Fighters Race Team (FFRT) officially launches this month, with their self built and bespoke 1978 classic Mini which will be used to compete in the SEMSEC race series starting in 2014.

The FFRT aims to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity - an organisation which enhances the quality of life for serving and retired fire fighters, fire personnel and their families. The Race Team will be attending a range of local and national motor events, various shows, sponsor support days and other motorsport related events throughout 2014 and into the years ahead.

The support team is made up of David “Dave” Franks, Joshua “Josh” Peak, Andrew “Drew” Pearce and Nicola “Nicki” Jackson, four extremely dedicated people who are passionate about increasing the profile and money raised for the charity by giving their time and talents free of charge to produce the best performing race car possible.

Dave, the Team Principal and operational Fire fighter at Herne Bay in Kent says: “We see forming a race team as a great new way to reach people who may not currently be aware of the charity’s existence and its extremely worthwhile work.

“By realising this dream of producing a race car, it is our intention to let others enjoy the buzz that motor sport participation can bring, whether as volunteers to assist in running the team, donating to experience a lap round the track or following the team by supporting at events or on social media. And all of these while increasing the income to the Fire Fighters Charity”.

He adds: “In June 2013, the idea was trialled at the Mini Festival at Brands Hatch Race Circuit to see if the team and car would attract attention and generate the interest we hoped for.  After an incredibly successful weekend, it was clear we had a brand that really caught people’s imagination.  Though we must admit, it generates a lot more work than any of us ever imagined, but every minute spent is really worth it.”

The funding for the car is a statement to the skills and persuasion of Dave, who has, with an incredible amount of hard work obtained not only private donations but also substantial commercial sponsorship, either in funds or parts.

The FFRT’s first major event will be at the Autosport Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 11th-12th January 2014 with a calendar of events to follow before, during and after the racing season.
