SAN ANTONIO - Nov. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Senior care professionals from around the world, gathering in Shanghai, China this week, will learn first-hand how San Antonio’s Morningside Ministries uses its online training tools to prepare caregivers for the often arduous job of caring for the aged.

Alvin Loewenberg and Maria Wellisch of Morningside Ministries will present their Online Caregiver Training briefing at the International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing’s 10th International Conference.  The event is co-hosted by the China Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing.

Morningside’s mmLearn.org training group has reached audiences in 92 countries and all 50 U.S. states since 2007.  In 2012, mmLearn.org videos were viewed some 70,000 times and Wellisch expects that total to exceed 100,000 this year.

“More than 90 percent of elder care worldwide takes place in the home, not in a senior care facility,” said Wellisch, Vice President of Corporate Education at Morningside.  “We decided in 2007 to do something about helping the millions of both non-professional and professional caregivers who simply do not have access to as much training and information as they need.”

The mmLearn.org library began with 15 videos available for downloading in 2007, Wellisch said.  Today the video library contains more than 300 titles on a wide array of topics, from how to work with those suffering from dementia to how to transfer someone from a wheelchair to a shower chair and back again.

The videos are available for free viewing via the Internet (www.mmLearn.org) on virtually any computer, smart phone or mobile device.  The service also provides frequent live webcast presentations that are fully interactive with the remote audience. Surveys have found 100 percent of viewers felt the training had increased their caregiving knowledge.

Leading Age, whose membership includes 6,000 not-for-profit organizations in the area of aging services, recognized mmLearn.org with its Innovation in Care and Services Award in 2011.

“Speaking to senior care professionals at an international conference of this stature gives us an opportunity to impact the quality of care for seniors on an even bigger global scale,” Loewenberg said. “We’re excited about extending the reach of this great resource and enhancing the lives of many more recipients and providers of care, no matter where on the planet they happen to be.”
