'Daffodil Sunrise' blossoms in the late '60s

Tranquil campus is no match for the hippie outbreak in new ebook novel release

DOVER, N.H. - Nov. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- DOVER, N.H. – "Daffodil Sunrise," Jnana Hodson's fifth novel, was published Nov. 12, 2013, as an ebook at Smashwords.com.

Set against the college student uprisings of the late 1960s, "Daffodil Sunrise" follows the transformation of one scholar and his circle as the hippie movement erupts on an otherwise tranquil campus in Indiana.

Hodson's latest tale published at Smashwords portrays the evolution of Dorn Lucas Mackenzie from a straight undergraduate student into a radical photojournalist and activist as he and his fellow dorm residents are caught in the crosshairs of administration conniving. Little do the collegians anticipate how much their sophomoric ideals and pranks in the out-of-the-way town of Daffodil will rattle the state capitol and more – especially with the Mekong Delta lurking in the background.

Previously sketched in Hodson's first novel, "Subway Hitchhikers," the now amplified episodes in "Daffodil Sunrise" take place entirely in the Midwest. Here is the back story on the character who becomes DL in "Hippie Drum" and the hippie boy in "Hippie Love," two other two novels available at Smashwords, as well as Duma Luma in "Subway Hitchhikers."

"Looking back, it's surprising to see how much that we now take for granted came about as the hippie movement fanned out from the San Francisco Bay and took hold in seemingly remote places like Daffodil," Hodson says. "Sometimes it's hard to believe just how much these revolutionary ideas overturned the existing order and how much of its results we take for granted today."

While "Subway Hitchhikers," published in 1990 at Fithian Press in Santa Barbara, in currently out of print, Hodson's novels "Ashram," "Daffodil Sunrise," "Hippie Drum," and "Hippie Love" are all available in a choice of ebook platforms at Smashwords.com.
