Public Push Toward Groundbreaking Initiative Designed By Veterans & Loved Ones Launched Yesterday

Innovative answer to mounting crises in the heart and homes of heroes and families will address homeless and at-risk veterans and those who love them using a whole hero, whole family holistic approach

DAPHNE, Ala. - Nov. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- November 11, 2013 - A group of veterans and spouses who themselves are facing the daily costs of service and dealing with the two most common injuries of recent wars - post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury - are celebrating Veterans Day by not only remembering and honoring the service and sacrifices of our nation’s heroes, but by publicly launching a project designed to set the standard in serving Veterans AND families who are homeless, at-risk for homelessness, or who are in crisis because of these life changing injuries.

The David’s House project has been carefully designed and planned for more than five years, not by professionals, but by individuals who have become “life experts” in this field as they daily live with the injuries and help others do the same.  It will not only provide housing and cover basic needs for heroes and loved ones in desperate places but will also help provide the skills, training, knowledge, and acceptance needed to foster whole hero, whole family sustainability and viability in the decades ahead.

The project will also go a step farther by providing on-site and virtual training to other organizations, institutions, community and faith-based groups.  This will ensure that the knowledge and insight built in to the David’s House programming approach can be utilized to strengthen the abilities of those who wish to serve Veterans and families throughout the country.

Mrs. Vines, founder of Family Of a Vet, and the wife and full-time caregiver of her own hero, said, “The David’s House project is truly a ‘little engine that could’ story.  We are just veterans and families who are too stubborn to give up on ourselves and the hundreds of thousands of others like us who are quietly falling into ever widening gaps in existing resources.  We aren’t asking for a handout.  We aren’t even asking for people to fix things for us.  We are simply asking for support so that we can use our own hearts and hard earned experience to fix things ourselves.  And we hope that our neighbors and communities and country still believe enough in us - in the potential of these men and women who have given so much to our nation - to help us get this done.”

The David’s House team is actively seeking donors and supporters to raise $795,000 to purchase the intended property and facility in Missouri as well as donations of time and materials to complete the minimal repairs and general cleaning that will need to be completed before it can open its doors.  The existing facility would serve approximately 10 - 15 hero-family units as well as 10-15 individual veterans and has room on-site for planned expansions as the project (designed to be ultimately self-sustainable through multiple mission-centric revenue sources) gets on its feet.  For additional information about the project or to donate, please visit http://haven.familyofavet.com.
